Flood damage and electrical wiring: What you need to know
May 7, 2024Homeownership 101: Your Checklist in the event of an electrical emergency
July 1, 2024It’s summer! Yay! We made it through the winter and spring and now is the time to celebrate and relax. But what about your electrical system?
In the summer, your electrical system gets a workout, especially if you use air conditioning, have a pool or jacuzzi or you are just home more with your kids who use a lot of power.
So what do you need to know? Here are some things to consider about summer and your electrical system. Read on:
Circuit board: Your circuit board will be put to the test this summer and honestly, it’s one of the most important things in your entire house. It powers your home, protects you against surges and hazards like fire and power interruptions. In the summer, you might “trip” it more than usual, especially if you are using the air conditioning and other appliances. It’s always good practice to make sure you are unplugging electrical devices that aren’t in use to help limit the load. But if you are tripping your breaker a lot, it’s time to call an expert electrician to have a look.
Blackouts: Summer brings storms and storms mean blackouts! No one wants to go without power, but it is just a fact of life. Brownouts can also happen in the summer, especially when it’s extremely hot and the demand for the system is high. If you see signs of a blackout or brownout, unplug your valuable appliances to keep it safe and consider a generator as a backup power system.
Energy bills. Your energy bills in the summer could be higher than necessary – but there are things you can do to help. Put your thermostat on a timer and keep your air conditioning set higher when you aren’t home. Make sure your ceiling fans are rotating counterclockwise to help circulate air. And if you need other tips, call one of our highly qualified electricians to come out for an inspection!
